About

Hi! I’m Heather the History Hound!

I am a temporarily retired history teacher, staying home to care for my daughter and two doodles. In my 14 years of teaching public school, I taught special education, language arts, and social studies in 7th and 8th grade. Although I found fulfillment in in each content area, my goal was always to teach history. Although it took me 10 years, I got there…and then gave it up.

I’m sharing ideas, resources, and successes I had from my years of teaching. Although I may refer to the multitude of missteps I had along the way, my hope is to so show others what worked to engage my students. I got the most enjoyment out of my job when I was teaching lessons that I felt strongly about and consequently, those were the lessons I felt like students learned the most.

As I have been gifted with my first child being a good sleeper, I hope to update regularly. Baby #2 is on the way and who knows what to expect, but using my “spare” time to post content helps me to keep my teaching skills sharp as I intend to return to the classroom in a few years.
